greaseproof architecture since 2000

National Gallery of Victoria International

Architect: Grounds Boyd and Romberg, 1959
Architect: Roy Grounds, 1962
Renovation architect: Mario Bellini + Metier 3, 1999 (by competition – with the use of an international architect enforced)

Lots of space for bus tours since the Bellini renovation, and much more gallery space, but the wonderful sense of the galleries encircling open sculpture courts has gone. The courts’ removal also make it hard to orientate within the complex.

Noted for its Great Hall, with stained glass ceiling by Leonard French. (Rory Hyde’s Flickr 2008)
