“The camera is the least important thing in photography.” – Julius Shulman

“Eric Bricker’s tribute to architecture photographer Julius Shulman is an intimate portrayal of a man who became an unsuspecting hero of the modernist aesthetic. The film documents Schulman’s career from his early days as an amateur photographer in the 1930s to the recent archive of his life’s work in the Getty museum. Schulman’s images document and celebrate the work of some of the most influential architects of this century and the last, propelling the careers of the likes of Adolf Loos and Frank Lloyd Wright into the international spotlight.

Visual Acoustics comprehensively captures Shulman’s individual journey while presenting many of the iconic images that have ensured the legacy of modernism in architecture.”
