Walter Burley Griffin worked as an architect, landscape architect and planner for over 40 years. His work exemplified sympathetic urban planning and architecture that is subordinate to the landscape, creating in Castlecrag an ideal suburb in harmony with its natural landscape. This tour, in association with the Walter Burley Griffin Society, will visit the Fishwick House in Castlecrag, which was restored in the 1990s and is recognised as one of the most important 20th century houses in Australia. Following lunch in the picturesque outdoor Haven Amphitheatre, the tour will move to Avalon to visit Stella James House, celebrated as an exquisite exemplar of planning, siting and integrated ‘organic’ design. The tour will be led by Heritage Architect Scott Robertson and Adrienne Kabos, Walter Burley Griffin Society Committee Member.
Medium level fitness required, some walking included.
