Hamish Lyon is a principal of NH Architecture and leads the design and ideological
direction of the practice. He is involved in projects of all scales and is responsible for
co-ordinating the design continuity within the NH Architecture corporate structure.
He began his architectural career with the national Robin Boyd Medal, awarded
under the chairmanship of the pre-eminent Australian architect, Glenn Murcutt.
In 1988, he was appointed as Principal Architect for the Building Services Agency
(formerly the Public Works Department) for the State of Victoria, prior to its full
privatisation. During this period he was the principal architect for a series of public
and institutional projects such as the International Fibre Centre of Deakin University,
the Grattan Gardens Community Centre, the Carlton Community Library, and the
Bendigo Regional TAFE campus. Hamish joined NH Architecture in 2001 and has
recently lead the team delivering Melbourne’s new 6 Green Star Convention Centre
on the Yarra River. Hamish has been active in the role of teacher and speaker on the
issues of public architecture and public space for nearly a decade.
