Presented by MANY MANY, House Wear is apart of the State of Design Festival.
A multidisciplinary exhibition and publication that address the condition of impermanence in everyday life and its effect on contemporary design. Artists, writers, architects and designers will explore how this relationship affects the way we live, and the impact of nomadic behaviour on our perception of house/home.
Tendency towards nomadic behaviour can be seen as either predetermined (out of necessity) or a process of discovery (the result of choice). The first often follows a traditional route whereby participants adopt a tribe mentality. The social structure focuses around kinship, and notions of the habitual, ritual and ceremony become relevant. The second is self-initiated behaviour conducted by an individual, characterised by transience, unplanned wandering, and often, self-sufficiency. Both emphasise portability and functionality…
