Open Conversation
MS4A is pleased to announce the second event in our series of open conversations; Public Space, Private Interest as a part of this year’s Sydney Architecture Festival
Moderator: Rod Simpson (Associate professor in urban design, University of Sydney)
Public Space, Private Interest will examine the delivery of major urban renewal projects in Sydney and consider how diverse interests are reconciled through these ‘city making’ processes.
The $6 billion Barangaroo development is well underway and by the end of this year, Infrastructure NSW will have selected a preferred bidder to deliver the $1 billion redevelopment of the Darling Harbour Entertainment Precinct. Historically projects of this scale and significance in the city have been met with controversy and public disapproval. This discussion will examine the political and commercial motivations behind this type of development and how these projects strive to meet the full range of community needs
An invited panel representing the interests of the state government, developers and the community along with architects urban planners and strategists will debate the topic from a divergent range of positions.
