CROSS-REGIONAL VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM UTOPIA RETURNS TO MELBOURNE FESTIVAL THIS TIME IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE IAN POTTER MUSEUM OF ART, TO PRESENT A PROGRAM OF EVENTS THAT INCLUDES A FREE FORUM, A FILM AND AN EXHIBITION FEATURING TWO PROMINENT INDIAN ARTISTS.
EXHIBITIONS
In a remarkable double exhibition, Utopia and the Ian Potter Museum of Art showcase the works of two prominent contemporary Indian artists.
Jitish Kallat: Circa
Renowned contemporary artist Jitish Kallat, reconfigures his remarkable installation, Circa, first produced for the Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai. Circa was created as a response to the museum’s history and archives – a playful exhibit that appropriated the buildings architecture and intervened in the display cases. Here he reshapes the work against a whole new backdrop: the structure and antiquities of the Ian Potter Museum of Art.
Gigi Scaria: Prisms of Perception
Internationally acclaimed artist Gigi Scaria has exhibited throughout the world, including a presentation at last year’s Venice Biennale. Now for Melbourne Festival he presents Prisms of perception, a startling, perceptive and sometimes humorous selection of video installations exploring the impact of the enormous growth in India’s cities.
