As part of the celebrations for the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, the University of Canberra and the Gallery of Australian Design invite designers to participate in a Design Ideas Competition for a new official residence for the Prime Minister of Australia on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra.
The competition is significant because of the role and cultural value of the Prime Minister’s residence at Australia’s seat of government. It is an exciting competition for a building of national significance, seeking design solutions that will spark the national imagination and stimulate debate throughout Australia.
The competition has the endorsement of the Australian Institute of Architects and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.
This is a single stage ideas competition. It will be conducted in accordance with the design brief and competition conditions. Entry to the competition is subject to acceptance of the competition conditions.
The first prize is $80,000 with second and third prizes of $20,000 and $10,000 (Australian Dollars).
The competition is not connected to any agency of the Australian Government or to any Australian political party. The Sponsors are not aware of any intention by the Australian Government to build a new Lodge for the Prime Minister.
The registration period closes at 4.00pm on Saturday 4 May 2013.
